I first started getting into the idea of sewing when I decided that I would like to make a few blankets for my unborn child and for my 2-year-old daughter. I bought a few yards of flannel material at a fabric store and they sat for a few weeks while I decided how I was going to do it. I really wanted to get a sewing machine but thought maybe I could do it by hand, so I ended up getting a few things like a needle and some thread. My mom and/or grandma were willing to show me how to use their sewing machines so I could use theirs to make the blankets but I was too impatient to wait.
After a few hours of hand sewing a pillow, which didn't turn out that great, I decided I had to get a sewing machine because hand sewing was not for me. I could also do much larger projects and get them done faster. So one day I went to the fabric store, I was wanting to get the cheapest one I could find that store worked great and I found one on sale for only $50 so I decided to ask someone if it was a decent machine or not. I ended up talking to the store manager and she said it was basically a POS and showed me another one they had on sale for $100, a Singer Basic. It was a bit more than I had originally wanted to spend but I talked to David and we ended up agreeing I could get it.
It took me almost and hour to figure out how to use it the first time and still had to have mom's help to thread the needle because I couldn't figure out the automatic one (I still thread it without it lol) but now I can have it ready very quickly. I LOVE my sewing machine, its a great machine for the price I paid and I am extremely glad that I paid more for the better machine. I have done a few projects since I bought it and i'll post more about those in my next post!
